Well it has been about 9 days now since I moved into my new home at Ouachita Baptist University and I thought I would spend a little time to share my experiences so far 🙂 The weeks coming up to this were such a struggle to me because saying goodbye to my best friends for 6 months was the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my entire life. (there are so many more pictures I could put on here but I’m pretty sure i have a limit with my free blog plan haha) Just wanted to let all my special peeps know that I miss you guys so much and I promise I won’t forget you even with all the hustle and bustle of college.
Especially these photos right here. My family is my stronghold and I’m not sure what I am going to do without seeing them everyday. I’m going to miss yall’s hugs. We will definitely facetime but its never the same 😦 thank you for developing me into the strong, determined young woman I am today. I am so blessed by each and everyone one of you. The worst part was my little brother Jeremy telling me “I want to come with you!” right before we left him at home (but I knew there was no way he would last through move in) I miss him so much.
So……. moving on…. the volleyball team moved in on August 13th (5 days before all the other freshman) so you could say it was pretty quiet on campus. We bought a carpet for our dorm room and the dimensions were not right AT ALL. It was WAY too big. We had to move all the furniture out of the room into the hallway, and it took my dad and my roommate’s dad about 20-30 minutes to use utility knives to cut it to the exact shape of our room. I couldn’t even imagine if everyone else had been trying to move in at the same time. It wouldn’t have been possible hahaha.
As you can see it was quite the struggle, but I FINALLY met my roomie, Glory! We had been talking for a while, but this was the first time we had actually met in person. She plays volleyball too so at least we are on the same sleep schedule. We seem to get along pretty well… I hope that doesn’t change 🙂 Here’s a couple pics from moving in as well as our cute mommas in those ugly closets before we decorated them with our purple (shower) curtains 😉
Well I know you have probably already seen quite a few pics on facebook, but here’s a couple more in case you didn’t. I would have to say my favorite part is my new devil purple emoji picture (funny that it’s next to a happy pillow) Can’t forget our “but first coffee” sign along with our coffee cup hooks on the wall. Can you tell we like coffee…? We did our best to coordinate colors and raised our beds just enough to put stuff underneath because there was NO way I was going to loft it and hit my head when I woke up every morning. Plus I didn’t want to have to climb up to my bed. That’s just too much work. I can just make a running start and leap onto it which works out pretty well 🙂
Tbh, If i hadn’t had glory there with me I would have been bawling my eyes out for days on end. Shoutout to my roomie for the good hug after my mom left 🙂
The next few days flew by really fast. We survived our two-a-days (played 28+ hrs of volleyball in one week), made our first Walmart run without any parents (and everyone was surprised that we were able to fit everything we bought into our dorm), got locked out of our room and had to call safety to let us back in, broke the braker momentarily when something fell off the wall, spilled half a gallon of laundry detergent on the carpet which took 2+ hrs to clean up…. it was quite an eventful week. Oh and we took our volleyball pictures which turned out AMAZING thanks to Dr. Kluck and went to church as a team at Parkhill Baptist Church. I really enjoyed the college ministry service and loved getting to know everyone around town. I am excited for more adventures with the church. I learned that Glory should take a job in broadway and that our dorm’s quote “it’s not about where you live… but who you live with” is just an excuse for how bad the dorm actually is (to make us feel guilty for complaining about it). to be honest, it’s not that bad yet, but I have heard some pretty bad stories, so I guess I’ll just keep y’all updated.
We had a tailgate along with our first pep rally. The football field was too wet from the rain and so we all had to stand awkwardly in the parking lot (we were on the front row so we knew the cheerleaders would notice if we weren’t dancing). I met my amazing WOW (Welcome to Ouachita’s World) leader, Savanna, who’s got some seriously mad dance skillz which we discovered at a dance party in her apartment. (My bluetooth speaker has come quite in handy) She is seriously the coolest chick around and she can do the best stank face which practically looks like the snapchat filter. I’m already besties with my suitmate paige (second pic) and our other new friend Tae.
So with the weekend coming to a close, we come upon Tigers N Torches. The freshman all walk along through campus while the upperclassmen are standing in a line with legit torches all around us and the drumline playing creepy music. I felt like I was joining a cult. So we all get our ceremonial beanies and candles, and as we are sitting in the arena, one of the torches goes ablaze and sets the ground of fire. I mean it took 10 minutes but they finally put it out. If you tuned into our snapchat stories, you probably saw that every single OBU student said something about it. It was pretty darn hilarious.
After almost catching the school on fire, we took a big class group pic and headed over to have dessert and karaoke night. We had really yummy ice cream sundaes as well as meeting a few girls who taught us the dance to Jacob Sartorious’ “Sweatshirt” (we got hard core judged by a few of the upperclassmen hahaha) There was everything from Journey to drake to Adele to spice girls to Miley Cyrus, etc. Party in the U.S.A. was a big hit with the football guys, and you could see all the girls crowding around the stage once the baseball team went up (and of course they sang a really slow country song lol) We just danced and had the time of our lives. We didn’t want it to end, but sadly it did.
Tonight we had open dorm night, where all the girls open up their doors so everyone can peek in and see the different rooms. I finally met another girl named Hannah (there are SOOOOO many Hannahs here) who is undecided like I am and we both felt a little better about ourselves. We had brownies/cupcakes/cookies on every single floor (because who doesn’t like free food), and we chatted for an hour with my new homegirl Maggie who literally offered us string cheese the minute we walked in the door (food is the way to our hearts) we just chilled and talked about life and it was pretty cool 🙂 I am so excited to make memories with these girls. It’s so great to meet new people.
Overall it’s been one heck of a week and a half. I just can’t believe classes actually start tomorrow. I’ll see y’all soon 🙂
